ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After the Moccasins took a 9-0 lead in the fourth inning, the Eckerd softball team rallied for six runs over the fourth and fifth innings. However, the Tritons were unable to complete the comeback falling to Florida Southern, 10-6, in their series opener Friday night at the Turley Athletic Complex.
The Mocs took a 3-0 lead in the opening frame on an RBI single and two-run double. FSC added to its lead in the third on an RBI single before taking a 9-0 favor in the fourth with runs scoring on an error, a pair of RBI singles, and a sacrifice fly.
Eckerd responded in the bottom of the fourth with four runs. Kayla Hurley delivered the first run with a single to left center before Hannah Gordon plated a run with an RBI single while Brenna Lokeinsky added an RBI double. Hurley also scored on a wild pitch.
Sara Soterakis pulled EC within three in the fifth with a two-run homerun to left field.
FSC added an insurance run in the sixth on a solo homerun. The Tritons got a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the frame but were unable to push her across to complete the rally.

- Gordon and Riley Anthony recorded their first collegiate hits in pinch-hit fashion. Gordon also collected her first RBI.

- Seven Tritons recorded a hit.
- Hannah Perkins took the loss allowing three earned runs over three innings.
- Brielle Benefield tossed four innings in relief, allowing two earned runs.
