AMERICUS, Ga. - The Eckerd baseball team produced an all-around dominant performance to take the rubber game, 7-1, and the series from Georgia Southwestern Sunday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium. EC's offense erupted early while the Tritons' pitching staff kept the GSW bats at bay, allowing just three hits.
The Tritons opened with two runs in the first frame, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Danny Gutcher and an RBI single by Jake Andriole. Joe Wike added an RBI single in the second frame for a 3-0 lead. EC padded its lead with another three runs in the third stanza. Andriole drew a bases-loaded walk for the first run, Michael Ballard drove in the next on a ground out, and Danny Gutcher scored on a wild pitch.
Brendan Lawry kept the Canes off balance, not allowing a hit over the first three innings before giving up a home run. Lawry went back to work, keeping GSW off the board over the next two innings, and Ben Waxler closed the door over the final three frames.
