Muzio’s Walk-Off Single Lifts Eckerd Over Georgia College in Series Opener

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Friday night's series opener with Georgia College was a back-and-forth thriller with five lead changes before the Eckerd baseball team took the game in extra innings, 6-5, on a bases-loaded pinch-hit walk-off single to right field by Joe Muzio

Eckerd jumped ahead early with a run in the opening frame as Jake Andriole delivered an RBI single through the left side, scoring Tyler Cox. The Bobcats evened the score in the next stanza before taking the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly.

EC took the lead in the fifth inning with three runs. Cox drove in Joe Wike, the tying run, on an infield single while Mitch Donofrio delivered the go-ahead run with a single up the middle, and EC scored an additional run via an error on the play.

GC evened the score at 4-4 in the seventh on a bases-loaded two-run single by Mason Spivey. The Bobcats took the lead in the eighth as a run crossed on a Tritons' miscue. However, EC evened the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the frame on a Michael Ballard RBI double.

Eckerd rallied in the 10th, loading the bases with one out as Danny Gutcher was hit by a pitch, Andriole singled, and Michael Ballard was intentionally walked. Joe Muzio then delivered the pinch-hit single to right to win the game.
