ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team dropped its season opener against Tampa, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the Bullard Courts.
The Tritons (0-1, 0-1 SSC) had early momentum in doubles, with Ericka Chavarria and Kylie Misdorp taking their match, 7-5, from Maeva Roquebert and Victoria Sánchez in the No. 1 doubles draw. However, the Spartans earned the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 wins from the No. 2 and No. 3 slot.
Tampa (2-2, 1-1 SSC) then took all six singles matches.
Lili Reichert battled in the No. 6 draw, taking Corbin Dorsey to a third-set tiebreak. Reichert dropped the first set, 6-0, but bounced back to take the second, 7-5, before falling, 10-4, in the third.
Chavarria managed to take four games from Roquebert in the No. 1 singles slot, while Misdorp took three in the No. 2 draw.
The Tritons host Nova Southeastern for a match on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
