LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 19 Eckerd women's basketball team continued its dominant start to the season with a blowout win over Davenport (Mich.), 85-57, Friday afternoon at Jenkins Field House on day one of the Florida Southern Terrace Hotel Classic.
DU struck first, but EC responded with a 10-3 run to take a 10-5 lead. The Tritons wouldn't relinquish their lead the rest of the way, ending the quarter with nearly a double-digit lead, 16-8.
Sofia Persson took over in the second quarter, scoring 11 of the Tritons 23 points on 3-for-5 shooting, including two 3-pointers and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe. EC led by as much as 13 in the first half, but a 3-pointer by DU's Loni Sales trimmed the Tritons lead to single-digits to end the half, 39-30.
The third period was all Tritons, as EC outscored Davenport 29-14 in the frame. Maya Price paved the way, scoring 10 points in the quarter while going 5-for-6. She also grabbed five boards. EC led 68-44 after three quarters of play.
Eckerd dominated the final stanza, holding DU to a 21 percent shooting percentage from the field. A Nicole Scales 3-pointer with 20 seconds left gave the Tritons a 28-point lead, their largest of the game as EC won, 85-57.

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Four Tritons scored in double-digit figures: Price (19), Persson (16), Scales (12), and Cirkeline Rimdal (10). Hannah Wentworth (9), Lauryn Vieira (8), and Ragnheidur Einarsdottir (7) just missed the mark.
- Price picked up her second double-double of the season also grabbing 10 rebounds (all defensive). She finihsed the afternoon shooting 9-fot-11.
- Persson also grabbed six rebounds and dished out seven assists.
- Vieira grabbed three steals.
- EC led the assist margin, 25-11.
- Eckerd scored 25 points off of 19 DU turnovers.
- EC dominated Davenport in the paint, outscoring the Panthers 46-20.
- EC's overwhelming defense held DU to a 33 percent field goal percentage.
- The Tritons shot 50.8 percent, marking the fourth straight game they have shot above 50 percent.
QUOTABLE
"The team responded well coming out of halftime. We turned up or defense and took control of the interior on offense. From there, we had a balanced inside-out attack. Our bench also made positive contributions today," said head coach Paul Honsinger '98.
