ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's basketball team cruised past Saint Leo, 77-56, Wednesday night at the McArthur Center. With the win, the Tritons move to a perfect 4-0 on the season, including 2-0 in conference play. Three Tritons scored in double figures:
Maya Price (23),
Sofia Persson (19), and
Nicole Scales (18).
Eckerd and Saint Leo stayed close to start the opening quarter, with the score tied 10-10 at the with just under four minutes to play. The Tritons closed the first with a massive 15-4 run, thanks to a pair of 3-pointers by Persson
and one from
Ragnheidur Einarsdottir as Eckerd entered the second with a 25-14 lead.
The Tritons continued to roll in the second, extending their lead by as many as 19 with just under two minutes to play in the half.
The Tritons' offense stalled in the third quarter, as they shot just 23 percent from the field. However, they held the Lions to shoot at a 29 percent clip to maintain EC's large lead, 55-40, going into the final quarter.
Eckerd was nearly perfect from the field in the fourth, as its offense ignited again, led by Price and Scales. Vieira was the maestro, dishing out five assists in the quarter, and Price and Scales scored eight points apiece.

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Price's 23 points set a career-high, besting her previous mark of 21 against Palm Beach Atlantic (01/25/20).
- Persson's 19 points and Scale's 18 points set a career-high mark for both players as well.
- Persson led EC on the boards with seven. She also rounded out her stat line with seven assists and three steals.
- Vieira's 10 assists set a career-high, besting her previous mark of eight last week at Columbus State (11/27/21). Five of her assists came in the first quarter alone.
- EC led in the assists margin 24-12.
- EC's defense again came up big, as the Tritons held the Lions to 36 percent shooting overall.
- EC's offense was on fire, as the Tritons shot a blistering 71 percent from the field in the first period, 53 percent in the second, and 83 percent in the fourth. Eckerd finished the game going 31-for-54 overall, good for a 57 percent shooting percentage, including 56 percent from deep. Eckerd also made all of its free throws.
- Persson shot 4-for-6 in the opening frame, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
- Both Price and Scales were perfect from the field in the fourth, with Price going 4-for-4 and Scales 3-for-3, including two 3-pointers.
