Tritons Open Season With Road Win at Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Eckerd women's basketball team battled in a tight contest with Lynn in its season opener but capitalized on a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring LU 17-4, on the way to a 42-29 victory Saturday afternoon at the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center.

Both offenses struggled in the first quarter, with Eckerd shooting 36 percent from the floor and Lynn shooting just 23 percent as EC held an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Each team played to a defensive slugfest in the second quarter as Eckerd made the only two shots, both three-pointers, to extend its lead, 17-13.

Lynn outscored the Tritons, 12-8, in the third, including a 6-0 run to end the frame as the Knights even the score, 25-25.

The fourth quarter was all Tritons, as Eckerd rolled off 13 straight points to open the frame. Hannah Wentworth's hot shooting from beyond the arc fueled the Tritons' run, as she nailed two threes and a jumper to lead EC in scoring in the closing period.
