MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Tritons and Panthers played at a stalemate for most of the game Wednesday night at Rick Stottler Field. However, the Eckerd men's soccer team ultimately fell, 2-1, to Florida Tech in double overtime.
Neither team was able to generate a clean look on goal in the opening half despite Eckerd pressing in the final 10 minutes as the teams entered the break scoreless.
The Panthers broke the deadlock quickly into the second frame as Fabio Amaral converted on a corner kick in the 52nd minute. However, Tommy Lamb equalized for the Tritons only a minute later, converting on a penalty kick after a tackle in the box. Blake Bauer nearly gave EC the lead in the 73rd minute, but his shot hit the right post as the teams entered overtime.
Shots were at a premium in overtime as the Tritons and Panthers entered the second extra period knotted up at 1-1. Guillermo Segovia netted the golden goal in the 104th minute following a long cross from the right wing.
