ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's tennis team won a tight match over West Chester (Penn.) after a key victory in doubles play that aided a 4-3 win on Sunday morning at the Bullard Courts.
The Tritons (3-5) battled in doubles competition, winning the first two matches 6-4 over West Chester (5-1-1) before splitting singles play.
Taylor Selby paired with
Lili Reichert to post a victory in No. 1 singles followed by the duo of
Bailey Koronich and Theo Shultz, both winning by scores of 6-4, as the Tritons took the doubles point.
Selby (6-3, 6-2), Koronich (4-6, 6-2, 10-7), and
Cassidy Lear (6-3, 6-0) all recorded wins in singles competition.
"We had a great match today," said head coach
Ben Maxwell. "The women stayed tough and got it done. I'm proud of their efforts."
The Tritons are back in action on Tuesday as they host Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) at 2:00 PM at the Bullard Courts.
