ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's tennis team picked up a victory over Davis & Elkins (W.V.) on Friday afternoon as they topped the Senators, 5-2, at the Bullard Courts.
The Tritons (2-4) earned two victories in doubles play to earn the first point as they carried their early success into singles competition with four wins over Davis & Elkins (4-7).
Bailey Koronich partnered with Theo Shultz (7-6 (7-4)) in the No. 2 draw to capture a victory in doubles. The duo of
Cassidy Lear and
Alexis Kwasnik (6-2) picked up the second victory to give EC the doubles point.
Lili Reichert earned a win in No. 2 singles with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Laura Vargas. Lear (6-1, 6-1) and Kossoff (6-0, 6-0) won handily for the Tritons. Schultz dropped the opening set 6-1 in the No. 4 slot but rallied to take the second 6-2 and third 10-8.
"We had really good work today from the women," said head coach
Ben Maxwell. "They fought hard through some really windy and cold conditions. It wasn't easy today."
Eckerd is back in action tomorrow as they host Barry for an SSC matchup, beginning at 11:00 AM at the Bullard Courts.
