Tritons Edged in Pitchers' Duel

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Facing off for the fourth time in a week, both the Tritons and the Sailfish were unable to generate much offense Thursday night at Alfond Stadium. However, Palm Beach Atlantic managed a two-run homerun in the opening frame that proved to be the difference as they defeated the Eckerd baseball team, 2-0, in the Rollins College Baseball tournament.

KEY MOMENTS
  • PBA got on the board early with a pair of runs in the first inning. Sean Houck hit a one-out single to left field and Brandon Seltzer followed with a two-run homer to right center in the next at-bat.
  • Eckerd looked to get on the board in the bottom of the frame as Mikey Burke led off the inning with a single up the middle. He advanced to third on a pair of groundouts, but EC was unable to push him across.
  • After giving up the early homerun, Jake Sanderson settled down and retired 11 of the next 12 batters before letting up a pair of singles in the fifth inning.
  • The Tritons put a runner in scoring position in the eighth inning as Tim Mira reached on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning. He advanced to second on Michael Ballard's sacrifice bunt, but Eckerd was unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Mitch Donofrio led Eckerd with two of the teams four hits. Burke and Chase Achuff each collected one hit.
  • Sanderson threw eight innings on just 97 pitches while scattering four hits and striking out nine.
  • Collin Bakken threw the ninth, allowing one hit.
  • Santos Grande drew a walk to extend his reached base streak to 15 games while Achuff extends his streak to eight games.
