ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A strong start in doubles play for the Eckerd men's tennis team carried into singles competition as the Tritons defeated Walsh (Ohio) 6-1 on Monday afternoon at the Bullard Courts.
The duo of
Prakrut Patel and
Pierre-Olivier Lassalle won their fourth straight doubles match, 6-0, in the No. 1 draw. Meanwhile,
Will Stone and
Matt Spasic picked up a 6-3 victory in the No. 2 slot for their third consecutive win as the Tritons (2-2) took the doubles point.
EC dominated in singles competition, with Lassalle and Patel each prevailing 6-2 and 6-0 over their Walsh (3-8) counterparts. Spasic breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 spot while Stone handled Clemens Wagner 6-2,6-1 in the No. 4 draw.
Alexander Webb collected the final singles win, taking the first set easily at 6-1 before taking a tight second 7-6 (7-2).
Lassalle's victory in the No. 1 slot over Jakob Riglewski (6-2, 6-0) was his third straight singles win.
"We had a solid win today as the guys came out strong," said head coach
Ben Maxwell. "Everyone stepped up today to get us a big win and we are looking forward to Wednesday's match."
To Tritons continue their homestand with a match on Wednesday at 2:00 PM against Findlay (Ohio) at the Frank Bullard Courts.
