Tritons Play to Draw With No. 12 Francis Marion

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd men's soccer team took the lead early in the second half before No. 12 Francis Marion (S.C.) equalized the match in the 85th minute. Neither team was able to put away the golden goal in overtime as the game ended in a 1-1 draw Saturday night at Johnson Field.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Neither team was able to generate a quality look on goal for the majority of the first half until Luis Villareal made a run in the 42nd minute, firing a shot that missed off the left post.
  •  Braden Bradford riffled a shot to the top right corner one minute later, but keeper Maximiliano Rocco was there for the save.
  • The Patriots opened the second half aggressive with a shot just 20 seconds into the half. Nestor Nunez fired a strike to the top right corner where Lynden Dawson made a leaping save to turn back the shot.
  • The Tritons got on the board in the 57th minute on an Agustin Pertusso goal. Pedro Galvao took a shot from outside the 18 that deflected off Rocco's hands and to the feet of Pertusso inside the box. Pertusso collected the deflection and one-touched it into the right side of the goal.  
  • EC looked to add to its score in the 71st minute on a Ty Dolan shot, but Rocco was there for the save.
  • Sam Pollard evened the score at 1-1 in the 85th minute, collecting a deflected ball at the top of the 18 and sending it into the near post.
  • Neither team got a quality look on goal in overtime. FMU took two shots in the second overtime, but neither was on frame.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Pertusso has score five of the last six goals for Eckerd.
  • Pertusso's goal in the 57th minute was the first goal that No. 12 Francis Marion has given up this season.
  • Francis Marion held a 12-10 advantage in shots while Eckerd held a 6-5 favor in shots on goal.
  • Eckerd played the final 10:27 a man down after a red card was issued to Enrique Mejias.
