Pair of Early Goals Leads Eckerd to 2-1 Victory at Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. - The Eckerd men's soccer team used a pair of first-half goals on its way to a 2-1 victory over Tampa at Pepin Stadium Wednesday night.

Agustin Pertusso and Blake Bauer netted goals in the 15th and 40th minutes leading the Tritons to their first win over Tampa since 2016.

KEY MOMENTS

• Pertusso got Eckerd on the board early with a goal in the 15th minute. Ty Dolan sent a long pass to Pertusso inside the 18 who touched it into the top of the net for the early lead.
• Tampa threatened a few minutes later on a shot by Josh Magrath, but keeper Lynden Dawson was there to collect the save.
• In the 40th minute, Bauer intercepted a pass from the Spartans defense and ripped a shot into the back of the net giving Eckerd a 2-0 lead at halftime.  
• Bauer gave Eckerd another chance to add to its score in the 64th minute, but keeper Jake Richards turned back the shot.
• Mike Schessl put Tampa on the board in the 73rd minute with a goal from the top of the 18.
• Tampa had several chances to equalize the match late in the game including two consecutive shots in the 82nd minute, but Dawson made three critical saves inside the final 11 minutes to preserve the win.

• Dawson earned his first career win in goal while collecting six saves.
• Pertusso netted his fifth goal of the season while Bauer scored his fourth.
• Tampa held an 11-10 advantage in shots and 7-4 favor in shots on goal.
• Before Bauer's goal in the 40th minute, Pertusso had netted four straight goals for EC.
• The Tritons picked up their first win over Tampa since 2016 and first road win at Tampa since 2014.
