Tritons Fall in SSC Opener to No. 10 Lynn

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's soccer team rallied from an early Lynn goal Saturday night in its Sunshine State Conference opener, equalizing the match on an Agustin Pertusso penalty kick in the 66th minute to square the game at 1-1 but the Knights responded by netting the go-ahead goal minutes later on the way to a 2-1 victory at Johnson Field.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Lukas Ostermann gave Lynn an early lead with a goal in the 16th minute. Joao Delgado sent in a cross to the far side of the 18 from the right wing where Ostermann shot into the low right corner for the early goal.
  • Eckerd was unable to take a shot in the first half entering the break trailing 1-0.
  • Nick Reinauer nearly equalized the match early in the second half for the Tritons. Reinauer took a free kick in the 51st minute just outside of the 18 firing a shot to the top right corner, but Lynn keeper Konstantin Fuhry was there to turn back the chance.
  • Hiroo Kimura gave EC another look on goal minutes later, but his shot was collected by Konstantin as well.
  • The Tritons equalized the match in the 66th minute as Pertusso converted on a penalty kick. Following a tackle just inside the box, Pertusso took the penalty kick sending in a low shot to the right corner.
  • The Knights quickly worked the ball downfield sending in the go-ahead goal just three minutes later after a red card shown to Pedro Galvao caused the Tritons to play a man down. Rodrigo Fernandez collected the rebound off Luka Radulovic's shot and one-touched the ball into the lower-left corner putting the Knights up 2-1.
  • Ty Dolan and Pertusso gave Eckerd two chances in the final three minutes, but both shots missed off frame.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Lynn held a 10-6 advantage in shots and slight 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Following an injury to David Ormiston, keeper Lynden Dawson made his first career appearance in goal collecting two saves.
  • Pertusso's goal in the 66th minute was the ninth of his career and his third this week.
