Williams’ Golden Goal Lifts Tritons to Fourth Straight Win

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Although the Eckerd women's soccer team dominated possession for the majority of the game Tuesday night against Florida College, neither team was able to find the back of the net in regulation.

Eckerd made a run early in the second overtime when Lashanti Williams received a pass from Haley DeSanto and sent the ball into the top right corner for the golden goal while giving the Tritons their fourth straight win.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Eckerd had a quality chance early as Alyssa Farmer worked a ball to Madison Dilgard from the end line in the sixth minute. Dilgard headed a ball from inside the top of the box that missed just high.
  • Farmer gave the Tritons another solid look in the 11th minute. Working along the top of the 18, Framer beat her defender but her shot missed wide.
  • The Falcons also had an early chance in the 18th minute. After a tackle in the box, Florida College was awarded a penalty kick, but the shot missed wide left.
  • Morghan Craven gave Eckerd another quality look on goal in the 53rd minute. After Kaliya Eutsey delivered a long-distance free-kick to the top of the box, Craven headed it in but Falcons keeper Tori Fullagar was there for the save.
  • The Tritons scattered four shots in the first overtime but were unable to find the back of the net; however, they quickly converted early in the second overtime. EC took a corner kick in the 102nd minute that crossed to the far side of the field. Mackenzie Maggio collected the loose ball on the left side and sent it out to Haley DeSanto. DeSanto gathered the ball from about 30 yards out and crossed it into the top of the box where Williams spun and lifted the ball into to top right corner for the golden goal.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Eckerd dominated possession outshooting the Falcons 24-6 and 8-1 in shots on goal. The Tritons also worked the ball in their attacking third for 40 percent of their possessions.
  • Williams netted her second goal in as many games while sending in the third goal of her career.
  • The team matches its best start to the season since 2014 where Eckerd also opened the season 4-0.
  • Eckerd has won all six meetings with Florida College with their last meeting coming in 2014.
  • Keeper Morgan Flemming made her first career start in goal collecting one save while earning a clean sheet.
