FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Runs were hard to come by for both teams in Friday night's series opener as the Eckerd softball team dropped a pitchers' duel to Nova Southeastern at the A.D. Griffin Sports Complex.
Eckerd and Nova Southeastern combined for one run on six hits in the contest as the Sharks scored the game's only run with a single in the third inning.

KEY MOMENTS
- Eckerd got two runners on in the opening frame on a leadoff walk by Nikole Van Gennep and single from Skylar Redish but the Tritons were unable to push a run across.
- EC got another runner to second in next inning as Jessica Wilson singled and stole second but Eckerd was unable to capitalize on the hit.
- NSU led off the third with a single from Lexi Storrer. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt before Kayla Kight brought her in with a single to right center for the game's only run.
- The Tritons put another runner in scoring position in the fourth inning as Redish drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kaylin Kramer, but Eckerd was unable to plate the tying run.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Redish and Wilson recorded Eckerd's only hits of the contest. Redish also reached base twice via bases on balls.
- Van Gennep took the loss despite allowing only four hits. She gave up one run over six innings while throwing just 49 pitches.
