ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven with a 5-2 victory over Franklin Pierce (N.H.) on Monday at the Bullard Courts.
Eckerd (7-2) put the match away early after winning the doubles point and the first three singles matches.
Matt Spasic and
Will Stone continued their dominance with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, improving to 8-1 on the season. Â
Alasdair Knox and
Prakrut Patel then clinched the point with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
Stone and Spasic each won their singles contests in straight sets. Stone made quick work of James Bisazza at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-1; at No. 3 singles, Spasic held on for a 6-4 win in the first set before easing his way to a 6-1 win in the second.
Knox outlasted Roberto Chong at No. 1 singles in a three-set contest that went into a tiebreaker in the third. Knox won the first set, 6-3, but lost the second, 2-6. He then came through in crunch time with a 7-6 (8-6) win in the third.Â
Patel earned another singles point for Eckerd with a three-set victory over Nkrumah Patrick (6-1, 4-6, 7-5).
The Tritons are back on the court on Tuesday hosting Ave Maria (Fla.) at 1:00 PM.
