ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A dominant effort in singles play lifted the Eckerd women's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over West Chester (Pa.) on senior day at the Bullard Courts.
Eckerd (2-6) dropped all three doubles contest as the Golden Rams (2-2) claimed the doubles point. However, the Tritons won five of six singles matches to earn the victory.
Wins by
MaryAnn Aaron at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-2) and
Taylor Selby at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-3) tied the match at 2-2.
Cassidy Lear took a straight-sets win at No. 5 singles for EC's third point and
Theo Schultz clinched the team victory at No. 4 singles holding off Elaina Rochford in a second-set tiebreaker, 8-6, after winning the first set, 6-3.
Angelina Kossoff rallied after losing her opening set, 6-1, to take a 6-0 win in the second. She went on to win the third set tiebreaker, 10-6.
Before the match, Eckerd honored a trio of four-year seniors: Aaron,
Madeline Carlson, and
Gabrielle Hartman.
The Tritons return to action on Monday, hosting Ferris State (Mich.) at 3:00 PM.
