Tritons Hold Strong Late to Spoil Rollins' Senior Day

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Eckerd men's basketball team got a much-needed road win on Saturday, snapping a three-game losing streak with a 70-62 victory over Rollins on the Tars' senior day.

The Tritons led by as many as 13 points early in the second half, but suffered through a cold stretch and saw Rollins take a 56-54 lead with 8:00 to play.

Eckerd, however, scored the next six points and led the rest of the way, knocking down four free throws in the final minute to preserve the victory.

  • Back-to-back 3-pointers pulled the Tars within four with just over a minute gone in the second half. Eckerd answered with a 12-3 run to go ahead, 46-33, with 15:10 to play. Myron Hagins scored six straight points in the run before Gianni Dailey and Kristiyan Stavrev made 3-pointers on consecutive possessions.
  • The Tritons still led by 12 with 11:45 to go, but went into an offensive funk. EC managed only a Drushaun McLaurn basket over the next four minutes, going 1-for-7 over the stretch. Rollins took advantage with a 16-2 run and claimed its first lead of the game with 8:00 to play.
  • A steal by Behori led to a Stavrev layup to tie the game as part of a 10-2 run that pushed Eckerd's lead back up to six points with 3:15 left.
  • Connor McKim brought Rollins within one possession after draining a 3-pointer a minute later. Eckerd missed its next shot but Stavrev kept the possession alive with an offensive rebound and McLaurn scored out of a timeout to put Eckerd up, 66-61, with 1:16 left.
  • Behori and Shaquille Harris both made a pair of free throws in the final minute to put the game out of reach.
