- Eckerd got on the board in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Nick Arrivo, then took the lead in the third. An RBI grounder by Chase Achuff tied the game, bringing in Keith Leavitt, Jr., before Mitch Calandra's two-out double set the table for Sam Cochrane to bring him in with a single just past a diving Ave Maria infielder.
- Kyle Durham entered in relief in the fourth inning and retired the first 11 batters he faced before running into trouble in the seventh. After striking out the first two batters of the inning, AMU finally broke through against the freshman on a double, wild pitch, and RBI single. The Gyrenes put another runner aboard before Durham got out of the inning.
- While Durham was shutting down the Ave Maria offense, Eckerd continued to add to its lead. Leavitt, Jr., drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth before Calandra delivered a two-out, two-run single for a 6-2 lead. Â The Tritons left the bases loaded in the fifth but added two more in the sixth after Calandra drove in Garrett Hiott with a single and later scored on a wild pitch.
- The Gyrenes threatened in the top of the eighth after loading the bases with one out against Brandon Castle. Tyler Schlegel entered in relief and allowed a two-out single but got out of the inning without further damage.
- Donofrio gave Eckerd plenty of cushion in the bottom of the eighth as he blasted a three-run homer to left-center, the first of his career.
