Tritons Breeze Past Delta State, 87-50

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Eckerd men's basketball team led from wire-to-wire collecting its first win of the season in a dominant 87-50 win over Delta State (Miss.) Sunday afternoon at Pruitt Hall.

The Tritons utilized a 9-0 run to start the game and further distanced themselves from the Statesmen via a 16-2 run to begin the second half.

KEY MOMENTS
  • The Tritons took control from the opening tip and never looked back, utilizing a 9-0 run within the first two minutes of the game to take an early lead. The Statesmen managed to pull within two points at the 15:16 mark before an O'Shane Taylor-Douglas layup sparked a run of eight straight points to push EC in front 20-10.
  • Delta State narrowed the gap to three points with 3:46 left in the half. However, Eckerd responded with a 9-1 run over the final two and a half minutes highlighted by an Admir Radoncic triple to take a 40-28 lead at the break.
  • The Tritons opened the second half with hot perimeter shooting, knocking down four 3-pointers as part of a 16-2 stretch over the first six minutes of the second half. Eckerd remained in the driver's seat the rest of the way and utilized a 15-0 run to stretch its lead to 77-38 with 4:02 left before taking the game by a 37-point margin.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Myron Hagins (12 points, 13 rebounds) and Travis Bianco (14 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles. Bianco's double-double was the first of his career while Hagins recorded his fifth.
  • Radoncic led Eckerd with 18 points while Malcolm Whitlow rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.
  • Head coach, Bryan Galuski, recorded his first program victory.
  • Eckerd's strong defense held Delta State to just 50 points marking the first time since Nov. 15, 2017, the Tritons have held an opponent to 50 points or less.
  • The Tritons shot 52.6 percent from the floor while holding the Statesmen to 24.3 percent.
  • EC dominated the boards, holding a 52-34 advantage.
