Tritons Fall to Florida Southern, 1-0

LAKELAND, Fla. – Despite quality chances early  in the first half, the Eckerd women's soccer team was unable to capitalize as they dropped a conference match, 1-0, at Florida Southern Wednesday night at Barnett Athletic Complex.

Scoring Summary: FSC – 66' Alexa Moberly (unassisted).
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Tritons came out strong with a shot from Hajar Benjoud in the fifth minute and another in the 12th minute from Mackenzie Maggio, but both shots missed wide right. 
  • Eckerd's best chance of the half came six minutes later when Maggio fired a shot to the top of the net, but keeper Jenny Stanton was there to turn back the shot. 
  • Florida Southern started the second half aggressively as Alexa Moberley registered a shot that missed wide in the 46th minute. The Mocs had three more shots on target in the next 15 minutes, but Casey Winn was able to shut them down.
  • The Tritons had another quality opportunity to get on the board in the 56th minute when Victoria Grant placed a shot that deflected off the crossbar. 
  • Florida Southern broke the stalemate in the 66th minute with Alexa Moberley scoring to take a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Moccasins had four more shots before the end of the second half, but Winn and the Triton defense were able to hold them off.
 
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Florida Southern held a 10-4 advantage in shots and 6-1 favor in shots on goal.
  • Winn collected five saves in goal for the Tritons.
