Eckerd Falls in Overtime at Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Eckerd men's soccer team fell 2-1 at Embry-Riddle Saturday night after the Eagles sent in the golden goal in the opening minute of overtime.
 
After an early goal, Agustin Pertusso equalized the match for the Tritons in the 23rd minute. Both teams went quiet for the remainder of regulation before Embry-Riddle's Tim-Frederik Lange sent in the game-winning goal in the 91st minute.

KEY MOMENTS 
  • Embry-Riddle took an early lead as Teddy West converted on a penalty kick to the lower-left corner in the sixth minute. 
  • Agustin Pertusso sent in the equalizer just 17 minutes later. Martin Aanestad slid a pass to Pertusso just outside of the box in the 23rd minute, where he sent in a sliding shot to the left side. 
  • Neither team was able to create a quality look on goal in the remainder of the first half as the teams entered halftime tied at 1-1. 
  • Eckerd opened the second half aggressively, registering five shots inside the first 11 minutes. The Tritons best look during the early stretch came in the 48th minute as Pertusso placed a shot on goal, but keeper Jack Crichton was there to turn back the chance. 
  • Ty Dolan nearly converted for EC in the 77th minute, but his shot hit off the crossbar. 
  • Max Scherer gave Eckerd one last look on goal in regulation, but his shot in the 86th minute was turned back by Crichton. 
  • ERAU sent in the golden goal just 26 seconds into overtime. Olav Aamlid sent a pass to Tim-Frederik Lange at the top of the box, who one-touched it into the back of the goal. 
 
NOTES AND NUMBERS 
  • Pertusso netted his conference-leading ninth goal of the season. He has scored in seven of the last eight games. 
  • Aanestad recorded his first assists of the season.  
  • Eckerd held a 15-7 advantage in shots, but the Eagles had a 5-3 favor in shots on goal.
  • Embry-Riddle played a man down for more than half of the game as Christian Mather was shown a red card in the 44th minute.
 
UP NEXT 
Eckerd faces a bye game in conference play on Wednesday and returns to action Saturday with a trip to Nova Southeastern for a 6:00 PM kickoff.
