Tritons Blow Out Florida Tech, 71-39

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Eckerd opened the second half of conference play Saturday afternoon with an all-around dominant victory over Florida Tech at the McArthur Center. 

Eckerd raced out to an early lead following a 15-1 run to start the game and stayed in control of the tempo from there, cruising to a 71-39 victory.

KEY MOMENTS
  • A Chelsea Johnson 3-pointer moments into the game ignited a 15-1 Triton run over the first seven minutes. Eckerd then finished the quarter on 7-2 run to take a commanding 22-5 lead to end the quarter.
  • Both teams struggled offensively in the second quarter but the Panthers were able to put together six unanswered points to pull within 11. An Armi Anttila 3-pointer at the 6:51 mark finally broke Eckerd's drought and the Tritons went on to take a 31-15 lead into the break.
  • EC opened the third period on a 7-2 run to stretch its lead to 22 points with 7:57 to go. The Tritons then utilized a 14-2 run over the second half of the quarter to take a commanding 33-point lead into the final period. Zoe Richards accounted for 10 of Eckerd's 14 points during the run.
  • The teams remained even throughout the final period with the Tritons maintaining at least a 30-point lead throughout the duration of the fourth quarter and stretching its lead to 37 points after a Brooke Juday layup with 3:44 left.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Richards led Eckerd with 19 points while Abby Whiteye posted her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Whiteye went a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor while also grabbing two steals.
  • Led by Whiteye, the Tritons held a plus-18 advantage on the boards. Yarden Danan and Mikayla Kuehne also grabbed six rebounds each.
  • Eckerd shot 49.0 percent from the floor while holding the Panthers to a 30.8 shooting percentage.
  • Florida Tech's 39 points were the lowest the Tritons have held an opponent to in conference play this season and second-lowest by an opponent this season.
  • Eckerd has won the past seven meeting with Florida Tech.
