WAIPAHU, Hawaii – It came down to the wire for the Eckerd women's soccer team Friday night as
Lauren Yudin's last-minute heroics equalized the match for Eckerd as they tied Hawaii-Hilo, 1-1, in their opening game of the team's trip to the Aloha State.
After pressing the ball into their attacking third in the final minutes of the match, Yudin collected a deflected ball on a blocked shot and ripped it into the back of the net for the equalizing goal in the 90th minute.

KEY MOMENTS
- Eckerd was on the attack from opening kickoff, quickly worked the ball into prime position with Stephanie Linton rifling off two shots in the first minute of the match. However, Hawaii-Hilo keeper Bailey Cahill was there both times for the save. The Tritons stayed in the attacking third as Sophia Kopko ripped another shot that missed high within the first minute.
- Eckerd remained fairly quiet for the next 20 minutes until Siobhan Longmore fired two consecutive shots in the 24th minute but neither shot could find the net.
- The Vulcans worked into their attacking third late in the first half ripping two shots off in the 34th and 37th minutes but both times keeper Casey Winn came up with the save.
- Eckerd nearly converted on a corner early in the second half as Kopko's header missed just wide in the 53rd minute. Teagan Payne almost connected on another Triton corner in the 74th minute but Cahill was there for the save again.
- Hawaii-Hilo broke the stalemate in the 81st minute as Carlie Reader converted on a set piece sending in a goal from a Tiera Arakawa corner kick.
- Eckerd quickly pressed the ball into Vulcan territory rifling off five shots in the remaining nine minutes of regulation. Entering the final minute, Eckerd pressed more resulting in Yudin netting the equalizer in the 90th minute. Yudin collected the ball after an initial shot by Celine Brandt was blocked and ripped a shot past the keeper.
- Both teams traded looks in overtime with Hilo's Danika Steele sending in a shot in the 92nd minute, but Winn grabbed the save. Longmore gave Eckerd a quality look in the 93rd minute, but the shot was blocked. Neither team was able to convert in the second overtime. Eckerd didn't get a look on goal in the period and Winn turned back a Vulcan's shot in the 107th minute.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Yudin's goal was the first of her career.
- The match was almost even with Hilo holding a slight edge in shots, 17-15. However, both teams had seven shots on goal.
- Winn collected six saves for the Tritons.
- The Vulcan's goal was the first goal the Triton defense has given up this season.
