Eckerd Falls to Montevallo on Golden Goal

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After an hour lightning delay, a second-half equalizer and a golden goal minutes into overtime by the University of Montevallo erased a halftime lead for the Eckerd men's soccer team as the Tritons fell to the Falcons, 2-1, at Johnson Field.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: Montevallo 2, Eckerd 1
Records: Eckerd 1-1, Montevallo 1-0

KEY MOMENTS
  • Eckerd wasted little time in striking first in the contest. In the third minute, Ty Dolan sent in a perfect cross from the right side toward the left pot where Agustin Pertusso finished with a header inside the post for his first goal of the season.
  • Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the first half despite some good opportunities for both sides.  The start of the second half was then delayed for an hour due to lightning in the area.
  • The Tritons had an excellent chance to add another goal to its lead in the 63rd minute. Juan David Tejada slotted a pass to Pertusso running toward right post. Pertusso gave the ball a solid strike on the first touch but UM keeper Robert Kuta made a sliding save.
  • Eight minutes later, the Falcons netted the equalizer on a shot from the left side by Rob McNeal that curled into the upper right hand corner.
  • The Tritons had five more chances in the remainder of regulation but came up empty, with three shots turned back by Kuta.
  • Montevallo got a quick shot in overtime that was saved by Mason DeBaets, but gave the Falcons a corner kick. Vladik Margolin delivered the ball into the box and Arad Lev finished it for the golden goal.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Eckerd outshot Montevallo, 19-15, but took no corner kicks the entire match.
  • Pertusso is the fifth different Triton to score this season.
  • Dolan has recorded assists in each of his first two collegiate matches.
