BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team put together two late-inning rallies but came up just short Saturday afternoon as the Tritons dropped a doubleheader to Lynn on the road.
In the opening game, Lynn jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the fifth. Eckerd managed to load the bases and score two runs in the seventh but was unable to push the tying run across dropping the game, 6-3. In the finale, Lynn took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Tritons again rallied scoring three runs in the sixth inning but ultimately fell, 5-3.

KEY MOMENTS
Game One
- Lynn looked to threaten early in the game with the first two runners reaching but the Triton defense coaxed two grounders and a strikeout to prevent any runs from scoring.
- The Fighting Knights took the lead in the third inning following a three-run homerun by Victoria Rios.
- Eckerd tacked on one run in the following frame on a Kaylin Kramer single up the middle scoring Dana Paul, who singled to lead off the inning. Eckerd threatened later in the inning with runners on second and third with one out but was unable to push additional runs across in the inning.
- Lynn took a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning with back-to-back solo homeruns by Rios and Sophia Devesa.
- The Fighting Knights scored an insurance run in the sixth inning with an RBI double to take a 6-1 lead.
- The Tritons rallied in the seventh inning plating two runs, but the comeback fell just short. Carrie Shere led off the inning with a single to left center and advanced to second on a Nikole Van Gennep infield single. Kaleigh Floyd reached on an error in the following at-bat to load the bases for the Tritons where Crystal Garcia drove in Shere for the first run of the inning, taking advantage of a Fighting Knights error. Paul sent a sacrifice fly to center driving in Van Gennep for the second run of the inning, but Lynn was able to throw out Floyd at second trying to advance on the play for the final out to end the rally.
Game Two
- The Tritons put the first two runners aboard to start the game after singles from Van Gennep and Floyd but were unable to push a run across.
- Lynn took an early lead scoring four runs in the opening inning after a three-run homerun by Rios and an RBI single by Mackenzie Wyatt.
- The Fighting Knights pushed another run across for a 5-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
- The Tritons looked to rally late in the game scoring three runs in the sixth inning but were unable to make up the difference. Van Gennep singled to lead off the sixth inning and advanced to third on a Floyd groundout and Garcia single. Paul then smacked a double to right-center scoring Van Gennep while Janna Gaburo traded places with Paul with a double of her own scoring both Paul and Garcia. The rally ended there following a groundout to end the sixth and the side was retired in the seventh.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Van Gennep led Eckerd at the plate with two hits in each game and ended the series going 6-for-13.
- Three pitchers threw in the opening game with Gaburo throwing the opening three while Ally Costa and Grace Willeck came on in relief for 1.2 and 1.1 innings respectively. While Van Gennep threw her 16th complete game of the season in the finale.
