ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Playing their second match in as many days, the Eckerd women's tennis team came up just short against Walsh (Ohio) University in a 6-3 defeat.
The Cavaliers (4-5) emerged from doubles play with two wins in three tightly-contested matches before taking four singles competitions.
MaryAnn Aaron and
Bailey Koronich won at No. 2 doubles defeating Maria Kacalova and Katarina Raszum, 8-5.
In singles play,
Joyce Fields took a solid 6-4, 6-2 win over Kacalova in the No. 2 position. Â
Cassidy Lear also scored a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles against Victoria Ambrosio.
Laurence Bourgault almost earned EC another point at No. 5 singles but was outlasted by Sofia Khairutdinova 7-5, 7-5.
The Tritons (1-5) return to action tomorrow taking on Winona State (Minn.) in Lakeland.
