ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - For the second straight day, the Eckerd softball teams bats exploded in a run-rule win over Southwest Minnesota State as the Tritons defeated the Mustangs, 9-0, in six innings at the Turley Athletic Complex on Monday night.
Nikole Van Gennep led Eckerd in the circle keeping the Mustangs bats at bay for the second day in a row while the Triton offense tallied a season-high 16 hits in the win.

KEY MOMENTS
- After two innings of scoreless softball for both teams, Eckerd plated a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings. The first run came via a Dana Paul single to left center driving in Kaleigh Floyd who singled to lead off the inning. In the fourth inning, Carrie Shere, Kaylin Kramer, and Van Gennep loaded the bases for Chelsea Armstrong after three singles. Armstrong then drew a bases-loaded walk for the games second run.
- The Triton offense erupted in the fifth inning for five runs. Kayelee Newstrom brought in the first two runs of the inning with a double to right-center, driving in Shere and Garcia. Van Gennep traded places with Newstrom with her own double for the next run. Armstrong brought in the final two runs of the inning with a triple to right field.
- Eckerd completed the run-rule win on Shere's two-run homer in the sixth inning. The blast brought in Garcia, who singled to lead off the inning, and was Shere's second homerun in three days.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Every Triton recorded a hit in the win with Van Gennep leading the way with three hits. Floyd, Armstrong, Garcia, Shere, and Kramer each collected two hits apiece.
- Van Gennep extended her reached base streak to 16 games with a single in her first at-bat.
- In the three-game series, Eckerd outscored the Mustangs 18-2.
- Van Gennep produced another outstanding outing in the circle, scattering three hits and striking out six without giving up a run in her first shutout of the season.
