ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team enjoyed a perfect day at the Bullard Courts on Monday, sweeping Franklin Pierce (N.H.) without dropping a set along the way.
The Tritons took little time to dispatch of the Ravens in doubles play. Â The No. 1 team of
Taylor Selby and
Joyce Fields breezed to an 8-0 win as did
MaryAnn Aaron and
Bailey Koronich at No. 2 doubles. Â
Laurence Bourgault and
Isabella Wong finished off doubles play with an 8-1 victory.
Eckerd (3-8) continued to dominate in singles play where four Tritons didn't lose a game. Â Selby, Koronich, Bourgault and
Cassidy Lear all picked up 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Fields nearly joined them, taking her first set 6-0 before closing with a 6-1 win in the second set.
Aaron wrapped up the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
"I'm really proud of our win today," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell. "The women played great and took care of business early on, and it fed our energy throughout the match."
The Tritons are back in action on Wednesday, traveling to face Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) in a conference contest beginning at 3:00 PM.
