Young's Career Performance Leads Tritons Past Fighting Knights

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - In their January 10 meeting in Boca Raton, the Lynn men's basketball team was able to keep Trevon Young off the boards in a four-point win over the Tritons.

Not so in the rematch on Saturday at Eckerd.

Young pulled in a career-high 17 rebounds while pouring in 26 points, leading the Tritons to an 81-58 win in the McArthur Center and avenging the loss in January.

The Fighting Knights held an early lead but a pair of 10-0 runs gave the Tritons the edge, and Eckerd held onto a sizable lead for the rest of the game.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: Eckerd 81, Lynn 58
Records: Eckerd 17-5 (10-5 SSC), Lynn 11-10 (8-6 SSC)
All-Time Series: Eckerd leads, 30-16

KEY MOMENTS
  • After a Jamal Palmer basket gave Lynn a 14-11 lead five minutes into the game, Eckerd rolled off 10 unanswered points with five each from Young and Myron Hagins.  Hagins and Young both knocked down 3-pointers as part of the run.
  • Darius James's jumper broke EC's first run, but another string of 10 straight points followed.  This time it was the backcourt getting involved with five points from Blake Morrow and a 3-pointer from Keshawn Ingram.  Ingram's triple capped the second 10-0 run and gave Eckerd a 15-point lead.
  • The Tritons extended their lead to 23 points early in the second half.  The lead later reached as many as 25 after a Drushaun McLaurn free throw with 7:04 left.
  • Lynn managed to pull within 14 points with 4:00 to play, but the Tritons responded by scoring the last nine points of the game.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Young's 17 rebounds are the most in a game by a Triton since Craig Hazel pulled in 17 against Florida Southern on January 21, 2006.
  • McLaurn was held to a season-low seven points.  It was only the third time this season that he has not scored in double-digits.
  • Eckerd recorded a season-high 14 steals while forcing 22 turnovers.
  • With Rollins and Barry both losing, the Tritons are once again atop the Sunshine State Conference.  Eckerd is tied with Rollins at 10-5; Barry is a half-game back.
