Tritons Dominate Glass, Finish Strong in Win Over Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Triton women's basketball team earned another important road win in conference play on Saturday, using strong defense and rebounding in the second half to defeat Rollins, 79-62.

After falling behind by five early in the game, Eckerd took the lead for good 30 seconds into the second quarter. The Tritons led by as many as 15 in the quarter before Rollins pulled within seven at the half and five in the third quarter.

Eckerd, however, used a 10-2 run to reopen the gap and controlled the fourth quarter on the way to a regular-season sweep of the Tars.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Rollins jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and still held a five-point lead with 2:15 left in the first quarter. Eckerd, though, closed the period on a 7-0 run including five points in the last 42 seconds with a 3-pointer by Chelsea Johnson coming just before the buzzer.
  • After a 3-pointer by Jasmine Stone opened the second quarter, Eckerd went on a 12-0 run to take an 11-point lead with 6:18 left in the half.  An Armi Anttila jumper extended the lead to 15 (35-20) with 4:30 to play, but Rollins managed to pull back within seven at the half.
  • The Tars stayed close early in the third quarter as the two teams exchanged baskets for the first five minutes.  Rollins, however, missed its final six shots of the quarter while Eckerd closed on a 10-2 run to take a 60-47 lead into the final period.
  • The Tritons maintained a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter and led by as many as 21 points on the heels of a 9-2 run capped by an Ada Yalcin 3-pointer.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Eckerd took both games of the regular-season series from Rollins for the second time in the last three seasons.
  • The Tritons out-rebounded Rollins in the second half, 23-7.  Eckerd had four more offensive rebounds (11) than the Tars did total rebounds.
  • Anttila was a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor helping Eckerd shoot 50 percent for the eighth time this season.
  • The win keeps Eckerd in a tie for second place in the SSC standings with Embry-Riddle.
