Tritons Lead Wire-to-Wire in Win Over Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Triton men's basketball team saw its offense return to its usual form on Wednesday night, shooting 52 percent from the floor and 50 percent from behind the 3-point arc on the way to a 90-84 win over Embry-Riddle.

Trevon Young and Drushaun McLaurn each scored 21 points as the Tritons led wire-to-wire, although the Eagles stayed just close enough throughout much of the game to make that advantage feel not exactly comfortable.

Eckerd led by 15 points with 6:37 to play, only to see the Eagles charge back within four with 52 seconds left.  The Tritons, however, capped a strong possession with a Blake Morrow jumper and forced a miss by Embry-Riddle to effectively seal the win.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Young's basket in the lane on EC's opening possession gave the Tritons a lead that lasted for the rest of the game.  It was part of a 9-0 run to open the contest.
  • Eckerd's lead reached as many as 12 in the first half before ERAU cut it to three points with 5:43 left.  Marco Behori answered with a 3-pointer, helping the Tritons take a 42-36 lead at halftime.
  • The Eagles managed to get within a point of the lead early in the second half, but Eckerd out-scored Embry-Riddle, 20-9, over the next six minutes.  The EC lead eventually grew to 15 on a Morrow 3-pointer with 6:37 to play.
  • After a late 10-2 run pulled ERAU within four points, the Tritons worked the shot clock to its final seconds and got a big basket by Morrow for a six-point lead.  The Eagles fired up a quick 3-pointer in response but missed, and McLaurn grabbed the rebound.
