ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Triton women's tennis team continued an early-season series of Sunshine State Conference matches on Tuesday, falling to Tampa 9-0 at the Bullard Courts.
The Spartans (2-0, 1-0 SSC) swept through doubles play before fending off strong efforts from several Tritons in singles competition.
Laurence Bourgault took Emily Hewland deep into the first set of their match at No. 5 singles before Hewland edged her, 6-4.
At No. 2 singles,
Joyce Fields put up a solid performance against Caroline Lozo. Lozo eventually outlasted Fields, 6-3 and 6-2.
Taylor Selby battled in the second set of her No. 1 singles contest against Vanina Iordanova but fell, 6-3, after dropped the first set, 6-1. Â
Bailey Koronich also took three games from Corbin Dorsey at No. 4 singles.
Eckerd (0-3, 0-3 SSC) returns to the court on February 24 with a trip to Florida Tech.
