Tritons Drain 13 3-Pointers in Victory at Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. - All five Triton starters scored in double figures as the Eckerd men's basketball team won the year's first Sunshine State Conference road game in convincing fashion over Florida Tech.

A 12-0 run early in the second half gave the Tritons a comfortable lead, and the Panthers never threatened afterward as Eckerd's lead didn't dip below 17 points for the final 10 minutes of play.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: Eckerd 84, Florida Tech 63
Records: Eckerd 7-1 (2-0 SSC), Florida Tech 5-2 (0-1 SSC)

KEY MOMENTS
  • Kristiyan Stavrev knocked down three early 3-pointers to help Eckerd withstand a fast Panther start before a pair of Admir Radoncic baskets gave Eckerd a lead it held for the rest of the game save a brief tie later in the first half.
  • Three straight 3-pointers - two from Marquis Gilbert and one from Marco Behori - were part of a 9-2 mini-run that pushed the lead to seven points, where it remained at halftime.
  • Florida Tech twice pulled within five points early in the second half before the Tritons rolled off 12 straight points for a 17-point lead at the 13:30 mark.
  • A 12-4 run soon followed, extending the lead to 22 points after another Gilbert 3-pointer with 6:38 to play.  The Panthers pulled back within 17, but EC scored eight unanswered points to put the game out of reach for Florida Tech.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Gilbert had a stellar shooting performance, scoring 24 points while going 6-of-8 from behind the arc.  He was 6-of-7 from the floor and 3-of-3 from 3-point range in the second half.
  • Stavrev joined Gilbert in torching the Panther zone, knocking down five 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 15 points.  He also dished out a career-best seven assists.
  • The Tritons had 24 assists as a team, their most in a game since recording 25 last season in a win at Rollins on February 17.
  • Drushaun McLaurn was a bit more quiet in the scoring category with 11 points but added six rebounds, five assists, and three steals in an all-around strong performance.
  • Eckerd made a season-high 13 3-pointers while shooting a season-best 54.2 percent from behind the arc.
