McLaurn's Double-Double Leads Tritons to Fourth Straight Win

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A fast start gave the Eckerd men's basketball team a lead it wouldn't relinquish on Tuesday night against visiting Maine-Fort Kent, as the Tritons stayed perfect on the young season with a 91-76 victory over the Bengals in the McArthur Center.

The Tritons cooled down after the first 10 minutes of play, but Drushaun McLaurn scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the second half alone while spurring two key runs that kept Eckerd well in control of the game.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: Eckerd 91, Maine-Fort Kent 76
Records: Eckerd 4-0, UMFK 2-6

KEY MOMENTS
  • Eckerd came out ablaze from the opening tip, knocking down its first five shots while building a quick 18-5 lead four-and-a-half minutes into the game.
  • A 10-2 run moments later saw the Tritons extend their lead to 19 points after an Admir Radoncic 3-pointer with 11:22 left in the half.
  • Maine-Fort Kent, however, managed to hold its own offensively for the rest of the half getting to the basket off dribble penetration.  Eckerd was able to match the Bengals' scoring after UMFK pulled within 11, pushing the lead to 17 at the halftime break, 56-39.
  • UMFK again got within 11 points early in the second half before the Tritons rolled off eight unanswered points capped by a Travis Bianco 3-pointer and a traditional 3-point play by Drushaun McLaurn.
  • Eckerd led by as many as 23 points before a late run by the Bengals cut the final deficit to 15 points.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • McLaurn recorded his first double-double of the season with 25 points and 14 rebounds.  It was the 16th double-double of his career while his 14 rebounds were one short of his career high.
  • Four other players scored in double-figures.  Radoncic and Bianco netted 14 and 12 points off the bench respectively.  Marco Behori had 12 points, and Myron Hagins added 11.
  • After draining five of their first seven 3-pointers, Eckerd made just one of its last 17.  Rebounding helped cover the difference as EC had a plus-14 edge on the boards and scored 20 second-chance points.
  • The Tritons made 15 of 16 free throws in the first half.
  • Eckerd's 4-0 start is its best since the 2009-10 season.
