ORLANDO, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team opened play at the annual South Region Crossover with a flourish, dominating Mississippi College of the Gulf South Conference in straight sets on Friday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS
- Eckerd took command of the first set after an early run of seven straight points resulted in a 9-4 lead. Â The Tritons continued to hold the Choctaws at bay, and a four-point run later in the set extended the lead to 21-12. Â Mississippi College won five of the next six rallies but it proved to be too little as EC closed the set with kills from Abbie O'Ferrell and Paula Hoffmann for a 25-18 win.
- The Tritons again jumped ahead early in set two, winning points on eight of nine rallies for a 10-4 lead. Â The Choctaws closed the gap to three points on several occasions before two Sarah Johnshoy kills began a four-point run and built a 22-15 lead. Â EC soon finished the set win after a pair of Mississippi College errors.
- Four errors by the Choctaws over a series of five rallies helped Eckerd to a 13-8 lead in the third set. Â The Tritons maintained a sizable lead for the remainder of the set, going ahead by as many as seven points. Â Mississippi College pulled within four points late but got no closer, and two Johnshoy kills capped the set and the 3-0 victory.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- The Tritons are 9-1 in their last 10 matches at the South Region Crossover while facing competition from the Gulf South Conference.
- Asya Harris led a balanced Eckerd attack with 10 kills, seven of which came in the second set. Â O'Ferrell had nine and Johnshoy added eight.
- O'Ferrell narrowly missed a double-double, recording a team-high 17 digs and also tallied four aces. Â Arielle Erillo had 16 digs.
- Eckerd outpaced the Choctaws on the attack with a 43-20 advantage in kills.
- The straight-sets win was Eckerd's fifth of the season.
