ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team battled with Walsh (Ohio) on Sunday morning at the Bullard Courts, coming up just short in a 6-3 loss.
The Tritons (0-4) scored a doubles win as
MaryAnn Aaron and
Bailey Koronich teamed to breeze past Gabriela Laguna-Leon and Victoria Ambrosio in the No. 2 spot.
Koronich won again in singles in the No. 4 spot, outlasting Ambrosio in the first set, 7-5, before picked up a more comfortable 6-2 win in the second set.
Laurence Bourgault also scored her first win of the year easing past Laguna-Leon 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
Isabella Wong lost a tight match at No. 6 singles to Snezhana Kiseleva, taking the first set 6-3 before falling 7-6 (7-4) in the second set and 10-6 in the third.
"We had a tough loss today," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell. Â "The women played hard. Â Hats off to Walsh for playing well today. Â I'm proud of everyone's effort and we look forward to this week's matches."
The Tritons return to action on Tuesday, hosting Southwest Minnesota State for a 9:00 AM start.
