ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team claimed its second straight win on Sunday, sweeping through doubles and taking five singles matches on the way to an 8-1 victory over Walsh (Ohio) University.
The Tritons (2-3) made quick work of the Cavaliers in doubles play. Â
Victor Appelqvist and
Alasdair Knox outlasted Ross Whitaker and Felix Zimmerson at No. 1 doubles, 8-5, while
Matt Spasic and
Will Stone improved to 4-1 as a duo with an 8-4 win over Rodrigo Garcia and Vasily Vidmanov.
Eddie Lewis and
Bruno Alves made it a clean doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory at the No. 3 position.
Eckerd then took wins in five singles matches.  Lewis, Stone, Spasic and Knox were all victorious in straight sets while Alves fought off Jose Fernandez for a three-set win in the No. 6 spot.  Appelqvist lost a hard-fought battle at No. 1 singles to Vidamov in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).

Ben Maxwell. Â "We battled through some great matches. Â I'm especially proud of everyone's focus throughout the long day."
The Tritons have a week off before hosting West Chester (Pa.) on March 12.
