WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Triton men's tennis team returned from an extended break to travel to face Palm Beach Atlantic on Sunday, falling to the Sailfish 9-0.
The Sailfish (11-4, 1-2 SSC), ranked No. 49 in the ITA Division II poll, established an early lead after taking wins in all three doubles contests. Â
Victor Appelqvist and
Alasdair Knox battled in the No. 1 spot against Rafael Lenz and Bernardo Ferreira but fell short, 8-4. Â
Eddie Lewis and
Bruno Alves lost by the same score at No. 3 doubles.
Appelqvist and
Connor Masella extended their singles matches to a tiebreaker in an effort to win points for Eckerd (6-5, 0-4 SSC). Â Appelqvist claimed the first set against Pato Zarazua at No. 1 singles, 6-4, but narrowly lost a 7-5 decision in the second set and dropped the tiebreaker, 10-3.
Masella, playing in the No. 6 position, battled back to win his second set, 7-6 (7-3), after losing the first. Â However, Carlos Meneses prevailed in the tiebreaker with a 10-5 victory.
The Tritons return to the court on Wednessday, hosting Huntingdon (Ala.) College at 12:00 PM.
