ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Triton women's tennis team grabbed its second straight win on Saturday, defeating Ave Maria (Fla.) at the Bullard Courts, 8-1.
The Tritons (3-7) swept the Gyrenes in doubles play with comfortable wins in the No. 1 and 2 positions. Â
Emily Fridrik and
Joyce Fields posted an 8-3 victory over Marianna Vargas and Camila Brandstner in the No. 1 spot;
MaryAnn Aaron and
Bailey Koronich scored an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
"I'm really proud of the women today," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell.  "They really stepped up and won some great matches. We were really solid in doubles.  It's always nice to start singles up 3-0."
Eckerd kept the momentum rolling into singles play winning five of the six contests.
Laurence Bourgault and
Isabella Wong shared in the day's most dominant wins, taking their respecting matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
The Tritons return to action on Sunday, March 26, with a visit to Palm Beach Atlantic.
