ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team was clicking on all cylinders today in its match against Franklin Pierce University as the Tritons didn't drop a set on the way to a 9-0 sweep.
The Tritons (2-7) were nearly perfect in doubles play with the teams of
MaryAnn Aaron and
Bailey Koronich in the No. 2 spot and
Laurence Bourgault and
Madeline Carlson in the No. 3 spot winning by scores of 8-0. Â
Emily Fridrik and
Joyce Fields also had no problems with Alana Wyatt and Kelly Wilson at No. 1 doubles, earning an 8-1 victory.
The trend continued in singles play with three Triton wins in which the players took every game. Â Fields, Aaron and
Isabella Wong all posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in their respective positions.
Bourgault dropped only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kelly O'Donnell while Koronich and Carlson scored comfortable victories to complete the sweep.
"I'm really proud of the ladies today," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell. Â "We have had some tough results in the past week, so to leave today's match with a solid win feels great. Â Everyone played well today."
The Tritons return to the court on Saturday to host Ave Maria (Fla.) at 11:00 AM.
