ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team won for the fourth time in five matches as the Tritons breezed past Franklin Pierce at the Bullard Courts on Wednesday, 9-0.
The Tritons started quickly with early leads at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles on the way to an 8-2 win for
Matt Spasic and
Will Stone and an 8-3 victory for
Eddie Lewis and
Connor Masella.
At No. 1 doubles,
Victor Appelqvist and
Alasdair Knox finished strong in an 8-5 win over Sonny Bisazza and Yuval Barak.
The performance carried over into singles play where Eckerd (4-4) won five of six matches in straight sets. Â Lewis posted the most convincing win, blowing past Barak at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0.
Spasic completed the sweep with a tiebreaker win at No. 4 singles outlasting Marcus Lawrence, 10-5.
"After a tight loss yesterday, today feels good," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell. Â "The guys were focused and played great. Â There was solid tennis all around. Â We hope to continue the momentum into Friday's match."
The Tritons are set to host Post (Conn.) University on Friday at 3:30 PM.
