ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Rams of West Chester (Pa.) took three tight doubles wins on Sunday over the Eckerd women's tennis team on their way to a 9-0 win over the Tritons at the Bullard Courts.
All three doubles matches were back-and-forth affairs, and West Chester managed narrow victories in each.
Laurence Bourgault and
Madeline Carlson forced a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles against Sophie Rathmell and Alyssa Rees but narrowly lost the tiebreaker, 7-4.
At No. 1 doubles,
Emily Fridrik and
Joyce Fields nearly went to a tiebreaker with Claire Uhle and Maddy Shaak. Â However, Uhle and Shaak avoided it winning the final set for a 9-7 victory.
The Rams (1-0) didn't drop a set in singles play to complete the sweep.
Eckerd returns to the court on Tuesday, hosting Lindenwood (Mo.) University at 3:00 PM.
