GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team split a pair of contests on the final day of the Gulf Shores Spring Hill Invitational.
The Tritons began the day falling in the first match, 4-1, to the University of Louisiana at Monroe before beating Huntingdon College, 5-0, to conclude the tournament.
In each match against Huntingdon, Eckerd (4-2) was able to hold the Hawks to single digits in at least one of the matches.
Savanna Cary and Abbie O'Ferrell were masterful in the No. 4 spot as they held Gaby Hughes and Kalen Morgan to a total of eight points. The tandem cruised to a win by scores of 21-5 and 21-3.
The Tritons also breezed to straight-set wins in the No. 2, 3, and 5 spots.
Kaitlyn Sibson and
Madison Whiting won by scores of 21-11 and 21-9.
Arielle Erillo and
Mackenzie Redner defeated Lexie DeVuyst and Alex Hillman in the No. 3 spot by scores of 21-4 and 21-10. In the No. 5 position,
Katie Arnette and
Keri McMahon sailed past the Hawks by scores of 21-15 and 21-4.
Stephanie Bogda and
Rachel Cornatzer faced a tougher task in the No. 1 spot against Audrey Hargitt and Shelby Young as the match went to three sets. The pair proved triumphant, however, as they glided past the Hawks in the third set, 15-6.
In the day's opener, Eckerd faced a tough battle as they lost to the University of Louisiana at Monroe, 4-1.
The Tritons' lone win came in the No. 2 spot as the team of Sibson and Whiting zipped past the Warhawks by scores of 21-12 and 21-9.
Eckerd has a quick turnaround as the team hosts Stevenson University on Tuesday for two games. The first match is slated for 1:30 PM.
