SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team traveled to face No. 4 Saint Leo on Thursday afternoon, putting up a strong effort against one of the top teams in the country before falling, 8-1.
Saint Leo won all three doubles contests, although the tandem of 
Laurence Bourgault and 
Madeline Carlson came close to knocking off Katherine Zaatini and Megan Charlton at No. 3 doubles in an 8-6 defeat.
Carlson then rolled over Charlton at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-0) to earn the Tritons' point.
"Maddie played a great singles match," said EC head coach 
Ben Maxwell.  "She really deserved her win.  She stayed focused and got the job done.  I'm proud of her."
Joyce Fields held her own at No. 2 singles against Maja Pindelska but lost 6-2, 6-4.  
MaryAnn Aaron also had a strong performance at No. 3 singles, taking on Fabiola Cardenas in a 6-2, 6-3 defeat.
The Tritons have a lengthy break before a busy March that commenses with a 10:00 AM match against Walsh (Ohio) at the Bullard Courts on March 5.
