Complete Effort Leads Tritons to Blowout Win Over Dominican

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Eckerd men's basketball team used a complete and balanced effort on Monday evening, leading from wire-to-wire in a dominant victory over Dominican (N.Y.) College at the Mocs Christmas Classic.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: Eckerd 84, Dominican 57
Records: Eckerd 10-1, Dominican 7-3
All-Time Series: Eckerd leads, 3-0

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Keshawn Ingram drained a 3-pointer 17 seconds into the game, giving Eckerd a lead it would not relinquish for the next 40 minutes.  Ingram's triple was part of a 17-4 Triton run that opened the contest.
  • The Chargers managed to pull back within nine points at the 12:20 mark and 10 points with 6:57 left, but an 11-2 run by Eckerd extended its lead to 19 just before halftime.  Dominican's Daraja Rodwell was fouled with .4 seconds left and made both free throws, sending the Tritons to halftime with a sizable 39-22 lead.
  • As he did to open the first half, Ingram connected on another 3-pointer 13 seconds into the second half to trigger a run of nine unanswered points.  The Chargers responded with a 9-0 run of their own, but Eckerd soon erased any hope of a comeback scoring 11 straight points to take a 68-46 lead with 9:57 to play.  The Tritons' lead reached as many as 37 points after a steal and layup by Gianni Dailey with 5:41 to play.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Trevon Young recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes.
  • The Tritons improved to 3-0 all-time against Dominican.  Eckerd last defeated the Chargers on December 16, 2013, in the McArthur Center by a narrow margin of 70-67.
  • Eckerd made a season-best 12 3-pointers in the game, but no player made more than two.  Nine Tritons knocked down at least one 3-pointer.
  • The Tritons shot better than 50 percent from the floor for the fourth time in the last five games.
QUOTABLE
"It was a good all-around effort.  We had a lot of people contribute.  For the most part, we did a good job of limiting their dribble penetration." - EC head coach Tom Ryan
