BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team put together its most dominant conference performance of the season, breezing past Lynn University on Saturday afternoon in three sets while holding the Fighting Knights below 20 points in every set.
HOW IT ENDED
Final: Eckerd 3, Lynn 0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-15)
Records: Eckerd 15-10 (8-9 SSC); Lynn 8-16 (6-12 SSC)
All-Time Series: Eckerd leads, 24-19
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lynn held the lead in the early portions of the first set.  Eckerd trailed the Fighting Knights, 10-8, but moved ahead after winning points on six of the next eight rallies.  However, the set remained close with EC's lead fluctuating between one and two points until the Tritons rolled off five straight points late in the set for a 22-16 lead.  The next six rallies all ended with side-outs, the last of which earned Eckerd a 25-19 win on a kill by Mackenzie Redner.
- Eckerd took an early lead in the second set only to see Lynn rally to go ahead at 12-11 following a run of four straight points.  The Tritons went back up by three, but the Fighting Knights tied the set at 16-16.  Once again, EC took control late winning points on a series of five consecutive rallies, turning a tied set into a 22-17 lead.  After Lynn got a side-out with a kill, the Tritons won the next three points on two kills by Abbie O'Ferrell and one from Redner, taking a 2-0 match lead.
- The third set was tightly contested until the midway point, with the Tritons holding on to a narrow lead for most of that stretch. Four straight points gave Eckerd some breathing room in the form of an 18-12 lead, and the Knights never threatened to close the gap.  EC continued to expand its advantage and won points on five of the final six rallies to finish the three-set sweep with a 25-15 win.
