Eckerd's Streak Ends in 3-2 Loss at Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Eckerd women's soccer team converted on two corner kicks Wednesday night but ultimately fell, 3-2, on the road at Florida Southern to snap its three-match winning streak.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: Florida Southern 3, Eckerd 2
Records: Eckerd (5-6, 4-4 SSC); Florida Southern (7-1-3, 4-1-2 SSC)
All-Time Series: Eckerd leads, 12-10

HOW IT HAPPENED
* Both teams wasted little time in getting their offenses going with each recording shots on goal within the first 10 minutes of the game. Stephanie Linton looked to give Eckerd an early edge in the 10th minute, firing off a shot but FSC keeper Paige Koetter was there for the save.  Teagan Payne nearly converted off Sydney Tiiman's corner kick five minutes later but the header missed just wide.
* The Mocs were the first to convert, netting a goal in the 16th minute. Anna Griessler brought a ball across to Caitlin Quaempts who found the back of the net for an early FSC lead.
* The Tritons kept an aggressive offense and didn't wait long to equalize. Abby Sanchez took a corner kick in the 27th minute sending a ball to the center of the box where Sophia Kopko rifled off a shot by Koetter to even the score at 1-1.
* The match remained quiet in the final 15 minutes of the first half and looked to be knotted at 1-1 entering the half. However, Candace Metcalfe shot a ball from the far left wing just as the horn went off, placing it in the back of the net to give the Mocs a 2-1 advantage.
* Eckerd again pushed the ball to their attacking third to begin the second half and nearly converted on a Paula Astiazaran shot in the 48th minute, but Koetter saved the shot.
* In the 74th minute, the Mocs pushed their lead to, 3-1, as Griessler converted on a penalty kick after a foul the box.
* Eckerd looked to make a comeback sending in a goal in the 84th minute off another corner kick. Sanchez again delivered a perfectly-placed ball into the middle of the box where Johanna Andersson headed the ball past Koetter to cut into the Mocs' lead at 3-2. However, Eckerd was unable to net the equalizer before time expired.
